How We Do It Literacy For Kids Literacy For Kids

OUR COLLABORATIVE APPROACH

Our approach combines personal interactions through book-focused events, which creates lasting connections.

Literacy For Kids

Authors:
IN-Detroit.

Literacy for Kids aims to promote the curiosity in every child through the art in reading. Together, with our partners, we promote academic and emotional literacy through an empowering method and create personal connections across classrooms.

Authors:IN-Detroit selects storytellers and artists that want to share their passion and imaginative spirit with elementary students. The repertoire of children’s books, enthusiasm for poetry, and expertise in the classroom, makes each author/illustrator/artist the perfect fit for our program.

Literacy for Kids purchases an autographed book for each student, accompanied by the artist author presentation. The distribution of books and educational resources are supplied to select schools.

Frequently
Asked Questions.

Does your author program exist in other cities?

Our pilot program began in Metro-Detroit area. We plan to expand nation-wide. Every donation helps us grow.

DO YOU TUTOR IN READING?

LFK does not tutor students in reading. Our main focus is to create presentation opportunities between authors, illustrators, and other art-minded individuals to inspire curiosity in all students. A child is more apt to want to read if they understand what can come from this accomplishment.

HOW DO YOU CHOOSE YOUR PRESENTERS?

We choose authors, illustrators, and artists who share our similar passion and love for writing and the arts.

CAN I DETERMINE WHO COMES TO MY SCHOOL?

Sure! We work with each school administration to determine which presenter will be a good fit.

IS THERE A COST TO HAVE A PRESENTER COME TO MY SCHOOL?

The schools selected for Authors:IN-Detroit are gifted by LFK. In addition, LFK offers a variety of presentaion opportunities. For more information contact us directly.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN A PRESENTATION?

Our presentations are fun and show how to create books. We talk about how illustrations add to the storyline and are able to tell a tale of their own. Some of our favorite topics are poetry, dinosaur facts, the importance of imaginations, animals alive today who lived with dinosaurs, and tips on self-esteem to help kids stand up to bullying. We provide lesson plans for each book.

WHAT IS THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN “DINOSAURS LIVING IN MY HAIR” AND LITERACY FOR KIDS?

Jayne Rose-Vallee is an award-winning author of the ‘Dinosaurs Living in my Hair’ book series and the founder of Literacy for Kids. All proceeds from the DLIMH book series directly fund LFK.
